A Waterfront Review

So some of you may know that I recently ventured over to Malta with my Dad for a relaxing week on a sun-soaked island. It was very enjoyable too, and I definitely want to go back again. We did a lot of the touristy things, like going on a boat, walking around Valletta, drinking a small amount of locally produced alcohol. (Cisk by the way, you can buy it on Amazon in the UK, well worth it).

But what really added to the pleasantness of our island adventure was the hotel we stayed in. Located in Sliema, we stayed at the Waterfront hotel.

First impressions were good; we were greeted by Justine at reception and offered a glass of Prosecco (a nice touch). Our room wasn’t ready when we arrived, so they kindly offered to look after our luggage while we got a bite to eat or explored the local area. So we went off up The Strand, found a pretty decent bar and grabbed something to eat.

A quick stop at a shop and back to check in at the hotel, easy process, no drama, happy days. Then we were told that our luggage had been dropped off in our room for us! Excellent.

We went for a superior room with a sea view, enjoyed a balcony each and a fantastic view of the bay that separates Sliema from Valletta.

The staff at the hotel were superb, all of them! Not one miserable looking soul to be found, which speaks volumes for the management. They obviously have cultivated a great working environment under Frederick Curmi’s management.

Every day our room was cleaned, towels replaced, and amenities topped up. My bed was comfy too and when I was laid down I was getting a great view up The Strand.

Now, I didn’t go out of my way to look for stains or dirt (I’m not Kim or Aggie) but the room looked to be in fine condition.

It wasn’t all about the room. There’s the food. The hotel boasts a few restaurants, but we only used two of them. The main restaurant by the lobby and the restaurant on the 3rd floor. The food downstairs was fantastic, I had a couple of pizzas (not on the same night, I’m not THAT fat) and tried the burger. Bloody brilliant!

We were staying on a bed and breakfast basis, which meant we got breakfast a few times! The breakfast was a buffet affair, but despite the fact the chefs had to feed the masses, it was all good quality. I enjoyed scrambled egg, grilled tomatoes, bacon, sausage and AAAALLLLL the mushrooms!

All in all, the Waterfront hotel is fantastic and well worth considering if you’re thinking about heading off on holiday to Malta.

A special mention for Justine who stepped in to help me out with a bit of college work and needed no persuasion to do so! Thanks!
