So a bit more about me! I was born in Blackpool and lived there until I was 17 when I moved up to Arbroath in Scotland, on the east cost not too far from Dundee. I’m currently studying towards my HND in Photography and I’m enjoying my studies so far. I’m 40 (at the time of writing) and I’ve finally decided what I want to do when I grow up. Originally I wanted to be a mechanic and spent many Saturdays in a garage learning how to lose 10mm sockets. Once I left school with a surprising amount of GCSE’s I started a Modern Apprenticeship in Motor Engineering and I was loving it…except for the small matter of having to spend a day a week at college. I was a bit of a wild-child back in my teens so suffice to say, I didn’t stay employed on a Modern Apprenticeship for long.
After leaving school I moved up to Arbroath, spent the early part of my 20’s bouncing from one catastrophic event to another before meeting my wife Charley. She came with a child – Rory – who I’ve brought up as my own since he was 3, he’s turning 18 this weekend which is properly crazy. We had 2 more children together, both boys. Riley is 14 and Hayden is 12. Needless to say they keep us busy!
Talking of Charley, I love that woman to bits. We’ve been together for 15 years and married for almost 14. It was a proper whirlwind romance, I went round to her house one night, stayed over, made myself some cheese on toast the next morning and then pretty much moved in.
In about 2010 I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder. I knew something was wrong and a few bad decisions brought the possibility I was having a crisis into the light. I didn’t have many friends at that time either, so I didn’t have anybody outside the family that I could talk to. I hid a lot of my symptoms really well too, so nobody really noticed. It’s all under control now though.
In 2016 I decided to turn my photography hobby into a career, in that time I’ve photographed plenty of faces, loads of places, motorsport, products and weddings.
Last year I made the decision to return to college to gain my HNC and HND in photography, it also gives me a chance to expand my skillset and challenge myself a wee bit, especially as I haven’t done a lot of photography for the last couple of years.
I’ve recently upgraded to a mirrorless camera, a rather pretty looking Nikon ZF with its retro charm is my go-to camera now, but what I seem to really enjoy doing is spending obscene amounts of money on camera bags. Charley – the boss – doesn’t approve!
So yeah, that’s a bit more about me. Fun!
